The wisdom you're already sitting on
As I was thinking about a new venture I'm taking on, I pulled a card from a reflection deck my friend made for me.
It's like tarot or oracle cards, but designed as a tool to help you pause and understand what you already know. The card that came up was wisdom. It got me thinking about something I notice with my high-achieving clients.
They're amazing at seeking advice. They consult mentors, read books, ask their teams, hire coaches. They're constantly looking outward for the answer.
But they rarely stop to ask themselves first.
Before the mentor. Before the book. Before the coach. Before the decision. What does your gut already know?
Here's what I've learned: You've accumulated more wisdom than you realize. Years of experience. Patterns you've noticed. Lessons you've learned the hard way. Instincts you've developed. All of that is already inside you.
That’s your answer.
Now, I'm not saying don't ask for advice. Of course you should. Get perspectives. Learn from people you respect. But do it second, not first. Consult yourself first. Then consult others.
Because here's the truth: The most grounded, confident people in the room aren't the ones who have all the answers. They're the ones who've learned to access what they already know.
They pause. They listen. They ask themselves the hard questions. And then they act from that place of understanding, not from doubt or seeking external validation.
Three questions to ask yourself before your next big decision:
What do I already know about this situation?
What has my experience taught me that's relevant here?
What does my gut tell me, even if I can't fully explain it?
Your wisdom isn't something you need to find. It's something you need to access. And it's already there, waiting for you to slow down enough to listen.
