Attending the Wintering retreat was truly an inspiring and enlightening experience. Lori and Kaje brought their own unique perspectives and teaching styles that deeply enriched my journey. Lori and Kaje provided a safe space for us all to express our feelings and truly be heard. Due to this supportive environment, I experienced profound personal breakthroughs, and it allowed me to uncover a significant blind spot in my life. Simply understanding this has changed who I am and I’m now on a path to heal and grow, thanks to their guidance. The community fostered in just 48 hours is a testament to Lori and Kaje’s ability to guide and coach effectively. I'm profoundly grateful for this experience. I would encourage anyone who is looking to dig a bit deeper and build a better connection with yourself to do a retreat with Lori and Kaje, you will thank yourself for it!

I would just like to say this retreat was such a great experience! Working with Lori is such a gift, with her deep, compassionate love and care of each person on the retreat. And Kaje has such safe and grounded energy and a gentle way of teaching with deep, soulful insights to share with us all. And the yoga was heavenly! The location was rustic and fun, with horses and fire pits, and a gorgeous river walk.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when entering this retreat, but I came in with an open heart and open mind. Kaje and Lori are so different in their coaching styles, but are the same in how much they care about each of us, and their devotion to their crafts is beautiful and inspiring. They truly pour their entire hearts and beings into their work. It was priceless to experience the differing classes, teachings, meditations, activities, and ceremonies, and also to experience the care and love from both of their beautiful hearts. They created such a safe and peaceful environment that all attendees were sharing deeply personal thoughts and feelings, and I’m leaving the retreat with new lifelong friends and a community. I’m so grateful. I learned so much from Kaje and Lori in different ways about how I am currently living my life, and how I can change and grow in my highest good by implementing tools to live my life to the fullest – with intention. I recommend this retreat to everyone on this planet.

FAQ
When & where will the retreat be held?
Root & Rise will be held from September 26th through 28th at a retreat center nestled on forty acres in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, which abounds in natural beauty and grace. The center is just 90 minutes from Seattle with no ferry travel required. Attendees will receive directions to the retreat center three days before the event.
What should I wear?
We encourage all to dress for comfort: yoga pants or sweats, warm hoodies & sweaters, and fuzzy slippers or socks are all welcome. Bring your hiking shoes or rain boots for a walk on the grounds. Honestly, whatever you feel most comfortable in.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
If you need special foods, drinks, or snacks, feel free to bring them. Fridge space is limited, so please consider others. This is a substance-free weekend with the exception of our closing fire ceremony Saturday night. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know as soon as possible, as the retreat center will make accommodations for your unique needs.
What are your COVID guidelines?
Masks are not required, but you may wear one if you feel more comfortable doing so.
Please check your temperature before arriving. Anyone with a fever, or flu-like symptoms, or who has had a known COVID-19 exposure within the last 5 days should stay home. Unfortunately, there is no refund for illness, so keep yourself healthy in the weeks leading up to the retreat. Again, we are creating a safe space, so please help us in this endeavor by thinking of us and your fellow participants as we all try to stay healthy.

Our Story
Kaje and Lori met way back in 2005 at a networking event. There was a strong connection and they just knew they had to get to know each other better. After an interesting, first date (they call it) where Kaje saved Lori’s life… literally, they knew they would stay friends. When Lori was leaving corporate America, after burning out, she turned to Kaje for advice on becoming a Coach. Since 2017 they’ve been tightly intertwined in each other's lives with the common goal of growing their respective coaching practices, enjoying every moment life throws at them, and supporting the humans they call clients with compassion, respect, and guidance.
Out of that passion…this retreat was born!

About Kaje
Kaje Thomas (they/them) is a Certified Life Coach and the owner of No Bullshit Life Coaching. Kaje was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and began their private practice in 2006.
Kaje's path to becoming a coach was filled with difficult twists and turns, and they are continually grateful for the flexibility that they acquired. Their childhood and early adulthood were marked by struggle, pressure, judgment, and self-abandonment, which cultivated their street smarts, adaptability, empathy, and compassion. This history coupled with their own failures and mistakes has humbled and shaped them into the coach they are today. They've worked in over 20 different industries from construction to corporate America, broadening their understanding of humanity through diverse interactions.
At the age of 38, they began to pursue a psychology degree but shifted to coaching certification with Coach Training Alliance at age 40. They've worked with clients aged 12 to 81, focusing on emotional balance, navigating moments of choice, and compassionate listening as key tools for a happy and successful life.
Outside of work, they enjoy spending time with loved ones, beach time, meditating, music, and sports like frisbee, tennis, and basketball.
